The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced last month that it will distribute drones for road facility inspection to national land management offices, complete the manager training, and deploy drones this month.

In the meantime, when checking road facilities, managers approached the slope or bridge directly and conducted inspections through the neck side, raising concerns about safety problems and blind spots.

As a result, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs has distributed 72 domestic drones to the national land management office, set up an operation manual, and established a monitoring system for digital data such as drone images to the Korea Institute of Construction Technology.

First of all, this month, we will use the highway and national highways as a demonstration for slope inspection in the estimation road maintenance that repairs facilities damaged or deteriorated by the rainy season, and plan to gradually expand the use field such as road pavement management and completion inspection.

“As there are endless road management plans using advanced technologies such as drones, we plan to continue to pursue safe and advanced road management policies through SOC digitization in the future,” said Joo Hyun-jong, director of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Road Bureau.
